Until Friedman, McKenzie or Dreger reports it, it's not true.

Why am I thinking that there was never a rift between Point and JBB... and that it's just both sides being cautious...

because it's probably the truth...Although the internet had never overblown anything and this site has never reported false rumors so who knows really.

BTW Pierre LeBrun posted this an hour ago.

LeBrun and McKenzie both said it. That's where he got it from.

Plus, Point just signed. 3 years $6.75M.

You can always count on Ek to come back and post a story claiming he got it from sources when it's been already reported on mainstream sites.

Seems like Dubas needs some assistance on negotiating contracts as these deals from other teams come in ...

That's a great signing by Tampa, as usual. No taxes playing a huge part in his AAV I'm sure.

After tax, 6.75M is significantly more take home than Marner (at around 5.4M). I'm curious how this is parity, when teams have the same hard cap, but some teams can pay less, but give players more.

I know you wanted to be an internet upstander and really stick it to me for calling Ek's bluff wrong, but even a broken clock is right twice a day. Ek didn't get this from LeBrun or MacKenzie. If you check the time stamp on this comment and on the official tweet, you'll see this was posted before the news broke.

Yes, we'll move the Maple Leafs to Florida where there is no state tax. Then compare them to deals in Ontario with say Ottawa, with one of the most heavily taxed provinces in the country.

Also, you'll notice that there was no update to this article once Point signed. If Ek's sources were so good, he would have known about this and updated the article.

And the extra cash you can make from endorsement deals playing for a Canadian franchise?

Different teams have different drawing points. Sorry, Dubas can't negotiate his way out of a paper bag, while (as per Yzerman's own admission) JBB executed cap and contract projects. That's no diss to Yzerman (who is great in his own right), but Dubas needed more time under a mentor.

That much is clear now.

Wasn't calling you out specifically, was more of an FYI before everyone called foul on Ek. Also not defending Ek. Every RFA signing has been the exact same, all the "reporters" racing to get it up first. I'm not going to compare time stamps to see who beat who by 4 seconds. If everyone who's anyone already knows, the speed of getting it up does not magically make you credible. Now if he posted this 3 days ago, that's a whole different story.
